Most people can encounter biotoxins through the air, food, and water in everyday life and properly flush them out of the body through the typical excretory pathways, remaining unaffected.
However, about a quarter of us do NOT eliminate these biotoxins properly due to a genetic susceptibility and subsequent "broken" immune system. Rather than recognizing and flushing out these biotoxins, they remain inside the body, lurking around and wreaking havoc!
One common sensitivity is to mold and its fragments and by-products, mainly from water-damaged buildings. Other biotoxins that are harmful for susceptible individuals include recluse spider and tick bites, tropical fish contaminated by ciguatera toxin, cyanobacteria, and others.
Once a susceptible person has been exposed, their "biotoxin bucket" begins to fill up and will eventually spill over and lead to symptoms such as fatigue, aches and pains, vision problems, and neurological issues like poor focus and the inability to assimilate new information, among many others. See below for the full list of symptom clusters. If a person experiences at least one symptom in at least eight of the symptom clusters, they are a candidate for further testing.
Preliminary diagnosis is accomplished by first checking off at least one symptom from at least eight of the symptom clusters by taking our free and quick questionnaire. Second, a patient should complete a Visual Contrast Sensitivity test online. If the patient has both the associated symptoms AND receives a "positive" result on the VCS test, there is around a 98% chance the patient has CIRS, and they should proceed with bloodwork to confirm and begin treatment.
